San Diego Fires

This week I had the opportunity to go down to our Oceanside site and help our leadership group deal with all of the fires. I was asked to go at about 2 pm on Monday, and we were on the road with 2 vans full of supplies by 6:00. I was there until Friday morning helping in our emergency operation center. We were never really in danger, but the fires were very close. The winds could have changed the outcome at any time. We were available to house about 100 employees and their families, and planned in case we had to evacuate people and product. Losing that much product would be a huge blow to our patients, so we wanted to make sure that we were prepared for anything. Fortunately, it didn't come to that. The air quality was very poor, especially on Tuesday. We could see it all the way north of L.A.
I was able to see Brian and Peyton on the way back home. We were ready for lunch about the time we were passing Huntington Beach, so I called Brian and he and Peyton met us at the sandwich place. Peyton was very shy with the other guys who were traveling with me, but did give Kyle a high five and ate all the pickles and tomatoes from my sandwich. It was a nice little extra to be able to see them.

I love these pictures. So other-worldly. I am sure it was no fun breathing that air.
